A group of illegal aliens, one of the pregnant, cross into the US in East San Diego

The terrain is treacherous and the risks are high, yet on this sunny Tuesday morning in late Sept, two men and two women, one of them apparently pregnant, walk past a camera hidden by the Border Patrol Auxiliary in east county San Diego. Carefully positioned on a well worn trail covered  by centuries-old oak trees and  surrounded by boulders the size of a school bus, this "wildlife" camera shoots day/night short videos of illegal border crossers invading the US.

The trail is about one-hundred yards into "El Norte"  and the scene of dozens of spottings by the citizen border watch group over the last few years. It is a popular drug and people smuggling route. Single groups as large as 40 have traversed this remote path, dubbed by border watchers as the NAFTA Superhighway of illegal traffic. The illegal invaders are apparently unaware of the Border Patrol Agent awaiting them at the end of the road.

They will keep trying though. After processing at the Boulevard Station they will be taken to the Tecate checkpoint and sent home. If unlucky, they may be driven to places like  Naco, Arizona, hundreds of miles from San Diego and Tijuana, before being repatriated to their own country. This program has been very successful at discouraging would-be illegal aliens from attempting to cross again.

The women, run the risk of rape or worse by unscrupulous coyote guides; even the pregnant ones. Should she be successful at getting past the BP, the rewards are unbelievable. The US/CA  taxpayer will pay for her child's birth and the newborn will be an American through an alleged misapplication of the 14th Amendment. The new "anchor baby" will be able to receive CalWORKS dollars until the age of 18 along with free healthcare, education, food stamps and a panoply of other benefits. Mom and Dad also are rewarded big time as they cannot be sent home hence "the anchor". Should the child be born premature as about 12% are, the costs soar to hundreds of thousands of dollars per child on average. Prenatal care rounds out the offering.

While BP has become very successful at stopping the illegal crossers, every one like this young lady that do get through, further help to bankrupt California.

The trail is located along a stretch of border. several miles long, that does not have a fence at all. Due to increased vigilance along the line and a new fence in the areas bracketing the trail, the section is now even more popular.
