Yesterday, the U.S. Border Patrol buried another fallen comrade, Luis
Aguilar, whose life was taken by a ruthless drug smuggler who invaded our
country through its unsecured borders. Aguilar’s two young sons will now
grow up without a father, because for the last 14 months, President Bush and
Congress have FAILED to secure our nation’s porous borders.
The tragic loss of 32 year-old Agent Aguilar is emblematic of the 44%
increase in attacks against our hard-pressed Border Patrol since 2006.
Mexican drug smugglers and terrorists continue to use exploited Mexican migrants
to distract the border agents with bullets, bottles and rocks while these
criminal syndicates carryout their deleterious actions. Meanwhile, our
federal government potentates sit safe and secure in Washington D.C., far from
the violence, and refuse to post the National Guard back on the Southern border
in order to support our valiant, embattled Border Patrol.
The volunteers of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps must ensure that our
government uses our hard-earned tax dollars wisely by posting the National Guard
back on our borders to combat the criminal thugs who conspire with the Mexican
government to do us harm through their unbridled drug trafficking, sex
trafficking and violence towards our citizens. Please ACT NOW so we can

In response to the murder of Agent Aguilar, Homeland Security
Secretary Michael Chertoff stated, “if the [Border Patrol] chief says to me
building a barrier, building a fence would make it safer in this particular area
. . . I'm going to use every available tool, including the courts."
MCDC says: What is he waiting for? The people have demanded the
FENCE be built, and funds were allocated THEN STRIPPED AWAY—BUT the AMERICAN
PEOPLE have spoken—BUILD IT NOW, with our hard-earned tax dollars!
To build the border fence, the Department of Homeland Security needs the $3
Billion that Congress stripped away from the budget for border fence
construction last month. Then they need President Bush to set the proper
standard with all government branches and agencies in issuing Executive Branch
directives which demand completion of the border fence before his term expires
in January 2009.
Next week, the President will deliver his annual State of Union Address from
the House of Representatives, a chamber that our Founding Fathers dedicated to
the Will of the People. Minutemen volunteers must ensure that before
President Bush steps up to the podium on Monday night, he has heard from
millions of citizens who want him to forcefully demand that Congress restore the
$3 Billion dollars in funding towards the construction of the border fence that
they cavalierly stripped away. These funds MUST BE RESTORED to the
Homeland Security Department’s budget through an emergency spending bill.
WE AT MCDC MUST ADVOCATE FORCEFULLY that Congress carry out the Minuteman Border
Security Agenda before they do anything else this year.
The 2008 Minuteman Border Security Agenda includes:
- Restoring the funding of $3 Billion dollars in funding towards the
construction of the border fence Congress stripped from the Homeland Security
Department’s budget.
- Posting the National Guard back on the Southern border until the physical
border fence is completed.
- Building all 700 miles of the physical border fence before January
2009.
- Strengthening the e-verification system through passage of the SAVE ACT
(HR 4088)
- Punishing states who issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens through
passage of S.2334
- Abolishing the North American Union and the Superhighway through passage
of H.Con.Res. 40.

It is the constitutional duty of our elected officials to protect our
national security and sovereignty of this nation, and to ensure the safety of
its legal citizens, rather than continue to tolerate violence, lawlessness and
disorder. Our country cannot sustain another great wave of economic,
cultural and environmental exploitation by another 12 million people illegally
entering under the cover of darkness—or even in the bright desert daylight.
Last year we kept New York State from issuing driver’s licenses to illegal
aliens. We also worked to ensure that Arizona and Oklahoma passed
legislation regarding strict employment verification laws. We also taught
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) that Americans will no longer tolerate his amnesty
rhetoric. As he campaigns for President, he is often heard saying,
“I got the message…we will secure the borders first.”
Now we need to make sure that all of his colleagues and the
President get that message too!

spending bill, immediately fund and build the border fence that was promised in
the 2006 Secure Fence Act. We will not wait for the 2009 battle budgets to
commence later this year in hopes of securing the border in 2010 or

If
our government had already built a physical border barrier, Border Agent Aguilar
might still be with us today, and some of the 12 million or more unidentified
illegal aliens living and working in criminal or unlawful enterprises throughout
America—including those in your local community—would not be here. We
would not have to worry about statistics and government documents that detail
the invasions from the Mexican Army that continue to go unpunished, and without
any plan to stop them.

Agent Aguilar’s murder is proof of just how dangerous a job it can be to keep
our country safe as the violence continues to increase daily, and yet our
government still refuses to act appropriately.

We Minutemen must demand that our government implement the Minuteman Border
Security Agenda—put the National Guard back on our Southern border with

U.S. Border Patrol agents have observed that when the Mexican Army escorts
drug dealers across the border, they send assailants to distract and imperil our
U.S. Border Patrol agents. Civilians hailing rocks, bottles, bricks and
sometimes bullets are used as decoys, so their friends in the gangs and
international drug cartels can transport their narcotics and underage girls and
boys for sex trafficking into our country unimpeded. While “the assailants
try to distract the agents long enough to let people dash in the United States,”
our border agents have become the recipients of multiple broken bones and other
medical traumas which they must bravely endure, and for which we the taxpayer
must foot the bill.

As you know, our country is generally led by weak-kneed politicians whose
public policies will shift with the trends of polling numbers and elite media
preferences. THEY SOMETIMES TALK THE TALK, BUT THEY RARELY WILL WALK THE
WALK!
Their lack of action demonstrates that our brave men and women of the U.S.
Border Patrol may never get the support they need to keep our families
safe—unless we make our voices heard—loud and often. While we would rather
just focus on our daily activities in our local communities, we cannot afford to
become inattentive, over-confident or apathetic about our Minuteman mission.
You can count on the open borders lobby and the Mexican government to do all
in their power to see that the National Guard is NEVER posted back on our
border—they have vast influence in Washington and will use it to devastating
effect—if we let them. That is why we must take action NOW and voice our
outrage to the political elite who refuse to help our undermanned Border Patrol
agents on the border.
In fact, representatives of the Mexican government have sent their
condolences to the Aguilar family, but also tell us that we have NO RIGHT to
defend ourselves from the attacks incurred by THEIR citizens on our U.S. Border
Patrol agents. They want us to believe that the same country who
encourages their people to violate our national sovereignty, will also enforce
the rule of law on the murderer of one of our law enforcement officers.
Why should U.S. citizens stop defending ourselves when the Mexican Law
Enforcement community is helping drug dealers, criminal syndicates and
terrorists invade our country? Our BP agents need support and
backup. It has fallen upon the volunteers of the Minuteman Civil Defense
Corps to continue doing the job the government refuses to do for its own law
enforcement officers, and its citizens.
