A Legal Immigrant speaks out against illegal immigration

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Mr. Galbreath:

I am Hispanic, I came to the U.S. with my parents from South America as a legal immigrant, I assimilated in American society and I am a naturalized U.S. citizen.

I am an activist against illegal immigration. Illegal aliens as well as many legal immigrants refuse to assimilate in American society and they want to turn this country into the country they left behind. They refuse to learn English and they keep loyalty to their country of origin. We don't need that kind of immigrant. I learned English BEFORE I came to the U.S. Once I got here, all my friends were Americans. I left my native country behind. I went back only once to celebrate my graduating class reunion as a grandmother! I spent two weeks there with dear relatives and friends, but I could not wait to come back to "home, sweet home, the U.S.A.!"

My husband was born in Italy and came with his parents at age 7. He is an American citizen and he is a U.S. Army veteran.

We raised three wonderful daughters in an English-only home. I wanted them to speak good English and I worked with them on that. The oldest is a freelance writer with countless books that have been published. The second daughter served in the Army, is an Avionics Technician with a BA in Business Management. She is in the Marshall Islands under U.S. Government contract. The third daughter graduated with honors from Veterinary school and practices in a large Veterinarian Clinic.

My husband and I also have a love affair with America. The greatest nation on Earth with the most welcoming and generous people in the world. I will fight anybody who wants to change that.

Sincerely,
Haydee Pavia, California
